Alanna Goldie Wins Bronze in NCAA Fencing Championships
Canadian Alanna Goldie (Calgary, AB) won bronze in her second appearance in the NCAA Fencing Championships in Women’s Foil. Goldie also won bronze in her freshman year at Ohio State University in 2014.
Goldie narrowly lost her semi-final bout to Margaret Lu from Columbia by a score of 15-14 to give her the third place finish. Goldie won 19 out of the 23 bouts she fenced as part of the Championships, tied with Lu and second only to Lee Kiefer from Notre Dame who won the competition.
Four other Canadians qualified for the NCAA Championships. Representing Ohio State University were Marc-Antoine Blais-Belanger (Montreal, QC) who finished 6th in Men’s Epee, Eleanor Harvey (Hamilton, ON) who finished 9th in Women’s Foil, and Fares Arfa (Montreal, QC) who finished 13th in Men’s Sabre. Shaul Gordon (Vancouver, BC) who attends the University of Pennsylvania finished 15th in Men’s Sabre.
