The Canadian Fencing Federation has decided to take a leadership role in creating a consistent and efficient process for acquiring criminal record checks that is accessible and affordable, regardless of where a coach or volunteer resides in Canada.
As a result of this direction, the CFF has partnered with SterlingBackcheck (SBC) to provide an online criminal record check process at a system-low price of $25, plus applicable taxes, per check. SBC’s Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) process provides a secure database to store and share results, manage renewals, and track the progress of individual checks. It does not include a Vulnerable Sector Verification (VSV).
As part of this expanded leadership role, as of August 2016 all new coach candidates must complete and submit a criminal background check prior to certification being awarded. The use of SBC for this purpose is not obligatory but has been established to simplify and ensure a cost effective process.
