After day one of competition, nine Canadian fencers advance to the direct elimination round at the Vancouver Men’s Epee Grand Prix. A full listing of results, and live action from today can be found at: http://vancouvergp.com/.

The Grand Prix has attracted over 80 international athletes, including a number of Olympians and World Champions including the 2012 Olympic Champion, Ruben Limardo from Venezuela.

“We’re very excited to be part of such an internationally prestigious sporting event,” states Dave Callaghan, Chair of Vancouver International Fencing Grand Prix. “Fencing is an up and coming sport in Canada and has grown immensely in the United States.”

“Hosting this event provides a great opportunity for our Men’s Epee athletes to compete on home soil,” states Brad Goldie, President of the CFF. “Many of our Canadians have made it to the second round and we look forward to an exciting final day of competition. We appreciate the work of the Hosting Committee, and the BCFA in staging this event, and appreciate the support of corporate sponsors, the Province of BC and Heritage Canada in making this event a reality.”

Not only will the 2013 Vancouver Fencing Grand Prix be a first for British Columbia, the medals will be an exciting first as well.

The Medals have been specially designed and hand cast by Omer Arbel, the internationally acclaimed designer and celebrated co-designer of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Medals. Mr. Arbel, himself an accomplished fencer, has created a new, unique medium and process to create medals that will be truly one of a kind. The much anticipated medals will be revealed for the first time at the Medal Ceremony later today.
