Fencer Marc-Antoine Blais Bélanger Wins Gold at the Junior World Cup in El Salvador
It was a great start of the season for epée fencer and Quebec native Marc-Antoine Blais-Bélanger. As the only Canadian who travelled to the FIE Junior World Cup in San Salvador, Blais-Belanger put his competitors on alert that he is a force to be reckoned with in junior men’s epée.
Eighteen year-old Blais-Bélanger won gold by defeating Russian Nikita Gubin in the final by a score of 15-12, after defeating El Salvador native Cristian Edenilson Mejia Garcia in the semi-final by a score of 15-8.
“It feels great!” Stated Blais-Bélanger. “I felt really good during the day, especially during the final where I was able to stay calm even though it was my first world cup final!”
Marc-Antoine Blais-Bélanger is now ranked 2nd overall in the FIE Men’s Epee Junior World rankings.
