The Canadian Men’s Foil Team had their highest finish in ten years with an 8th place finish in the Team World Cup event this past weekend in Bonn, Germany.

In the round of 16, Marc-Antoine Brodeur, Étienne Lalonde Turbide, Anthony Prymack and Maximilien Van Haaster defeated the traditionally strong host German team by a score of 45-44.

“The match was not that close initially, but in the last relay Maximilien faced a four-time World Champion. Our lead was slipping but we were able to make the last touch to win,” explained Etienne Lalonde Turbide from Montreal.

The Canadians lost in the quarterfinal 45-32 to China who went on to win the competition.  “After facing the Germans who were always in counter-attack mode, the Chinese were physical machines.  We had some difficulty adapting to them,” stated Lalonde Turbide.

China went on to win against Korea in the final 45-34 to earn gold, while the bronze medal went to England who defeated the Ukrainians 45-36.
