The CFF is pleased to announce that Wheelchair Fencers Pierre Mainville (St-Colomban, QC) and Matthieu Hebert (Beauharnois, QC) will represent Canada at the upcoming Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Wheelchair fencing takes place from September 12 – 16, 2016 with Mainville competing on September 12^th and Hebert in action on September 13^th.

Pierre Mainville qualified for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in May 2016 when he won the gold medal in men’s sabre at the Americas Championships in Brazil. Rio will mark Mainville’s third Paralympic Games appearance; he also competed at London 2012 and Beijing 2008 finishing 7^th in Men’s Sabre and 9^th in Men’s Epee B in London, while 9^th in Men’s Epee and 15^th in Sabre in Beijing.

Matthieu Hebert qualified for Rio in Men’s Epee A following the disqualification of Russia from the Paralympic Games. Hebert won bronze in men’s epee A at the 2016 Americas Championship in Brazil. A relative newcomer to the sport, Rio will be Hebert’s first Paralympic Games.

Both fencers will be accompanied by Coach Ildemaro Sanchez from Montreal, QC.
