Fencers in action for ParticipACTION!
First ever Fencing Medley on the Mall a success!
OTTAWA — Olympians and Paralympians were on Ottawa’s Sparks Street Mall today, giving Canadians the opportunity to get active and try fencing during the first ever Fencing Medley on the Mall—and at the same try a sport on ParticipACTION’s 150 Play List.
Olympians Maxime Brinck-Croteau (Gatineau), Leonora Mackinnon (Newbury, England) and Melanie McCann (Mount Carmel, ON) were joined by Paralympian Matthieu Hébert (Montreal) and National Team Wheelchair Fencer Camille Chai (Montreal) and numerous others to make the Fencing Medley on the Mall a success.
The action continues during Fencing Week in Canada as many of the athletes head to Gatineau to compete at the Canadian Fencing Championships, April 21-23 at the Complexe Branchaud-Brière. The Championships are organized by the Canadian Fencing Federation, in partnership with the Masque de Fer Fencing Club, who are proudly celebrating their 20th anniversary (Championships information and schedule).
The Fencing Medley On The Mall was presented by the Canadian Fencing Federation (CFF), a non-profit,
amateur sports association that is the national governing body of fencing. CFF includes ten provincial fencing associations, which in turn represent two hundred local clubs from coast to coast. Its mandate is to establish, develop and support fencing in Canada and to represent Canada on the international scene.
Fencing is on ParticipACTION’s 150 Play List, part of the celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. The 150 activities that define our land and people – from sledge hockey to lacrosse to snow shovelling and more.
