Canada Sweeps the Podium in Cadet Women’s Foil at the 2015 Pan American Fencing Championships
Toronto – Cadet competition wrapped up today with Canada taking home another six medals.
Canada showed its dominance in Women’s foil, winning all four medals in that category. The all-Canadian final featured 2014 defending Pan American Champion Angela Li (Toronto, ON) facing Sarah Filby (Edina, MB), with Li coming out on top by a close score of 6-5. Finishing in third were Naomi Moindrot-Zilliox (Saint-Lambert, QC) and Jane Caulfield (Edmonton, AB).
In Men’s Sabre, Canada’s Jean Etienne-Beauchamp (Montreal, QC) had an outstanding day reaching the final and facing Moises Carrillo-Ramirez from Mexico. In an exciting final with fans from Mexico and Canada cheering on their athlete, Etienne-Beauchamp came from behind to tie the score at 14-14 but lost in the final touch 15-14, taking home a silver medal. In Cadet Men’s Epee, Canadian Loic Beaulieu (Sherbrooke, QC) won bronze.
Canada won a total of nine medals in the Cadet portion of the competition surpassing their total of six medals at this Championship in 2014.
The best Junior Canadian fencers hit the stage Thursday and Friday with Junior Team competition taking place through the weekend. Entry is free to the competition at the CIBC Pan Am / Parapan Am Aquatics Centre and Field House. Competition gets underway at 10:00 am with the finals at 6:00 pm Thursday and Friday. Finals in team competition take place at 5:00 pm both Saturday and Sunday.
