Eleanor Harvey Finishes 10th in Women’s Foil World Cup in Algeria
Coming off her gold medal last weekend in Division One Women’s Foil at the North American World Cup, Eleanor Harvey (Hamilton, ON) continues to show her strength with a 10th place finish in World Cup competition in Algeria on Saturday.
With a direct bye to the 64’s due to her world ranking, Harvey breezed through her 64 and 32 round bouts, defeating Astrid Rapaud from France 15-4, followed by France’s Solene Butreille 15-7. Harvey’s streak came to an end in the 16’s with a heartbreaking loss by a close score of 15-14 to Italy’s Valentina De Costanzo, giving her a 10th place finish overall.
Harvey’s teammates Kelleigh Ryan (Ottawa, ON) and Alanna Goldie (Calgary, AB) also impressed. Ryan finished in 18th place while Goldie finished 48th. Both unfortunately fell at the hands of Julia Walczyk of Poland who defeated Goldie 15-12 in the 64’s and then defeated Ryan 15-8 in the 32’s.
Canada competed in the team event on Sunday finishing 11th. The team lost to Poland 45-33 in the 16’s to take them out of a chance for a medal. Canada lost to Germany a close 44-41 and then defeated Austria 45-20 to finish in 11th place overall.
