Marc-Antoine Blais-Belanger Takes Home Gold in Men’s Epee at Louisville NAC
Canadian fencers took part in the North American Cup (Junior, Cadet, Y14) from November 7-10 in Louisville, Kentucky with a number of outstanding results. Most notably, Montreal native Marc-Antoine Blais-Belanger won gold in the Men’s Junior Epee competition. Blais-Belanger, who attends Ohio State University, finished top of the podium out of an event with more than 250 fencers.
“Today was a really good day and I am really happy about my performance,” stated Blais-Belanger. “I was feeling great and all my actions were working fine. I had a hard draw but I was able to go through even though there were three bouts where I finished ahead by only one point.”
While Blais-Belanger was the only Canadian to reach the podium, six Canadians finished top 8 in their event and another four had top 16 finishes – impressive results considering most events have between 100 to 200 competitors.
