Pierre Mainville (St. Colomban, QC) is pleased with the results of his first World Cup in Wheelchair Fencing since the Rio Paralympic Games. The event in Pisa, Italy was also the first world cup for Camille Chai and Matthieu Hebert this season.

Competing in Sabre B on Sunday, Mainville had three wins and 1 loss in poules. His strong results advanced him directly to the quarter-finals where he faced Maxime Valet from France and lost 15-9, despite defeating him earlier in the poule round. Mainville finished in 5^th place in the competition.

Participating in Epee B on Saturday, Mainville had three wins and three losses in poules, advancing to the 16’s where he lost 15-8 to Belarusse Aliksei Sinkevich to finish in 10^th place.

Matthieu Hebert (Beauharnois, QC) competed in Sabre A, his first time competing internationally in this weapon after switching from Foil to Sabre in order to compete in the same weapon as teammate Camille Chai. Hebert finished in 12^th place, losing his round of 16 bout 15-9 to Russian Victor Dronov. Hebert also competed in Epee A, the weapon he competed in in Rio and had a stronger finish. Hebert had three wins and two losses in poules which advanced him directly to the 16’s.   There he lost to Italian Matteo Betti 15-8, giving him an overall rank of 11^th place.

Canadian Camille Chai (Montreal, QC) had her debut in Sabre in World Cup competition. In Sabre B, she had two wins and three losses in poule play, advancing her to the 16’s. There she lost to Sandrine Quinola from France a close 15-14, giving her a final placing of 11^th! She finished 14^th in Epee A earlier in the weekend. Chai started fencing only six months ago and is already making her mark internationally.
