Canada Wins Silver in Women’s Epee Team Competition

Toronto – The team competition got underway today at the 2015 Junior-Cadet Pan American Championships in Scarborough, ON with Women’s Epee, Men’s Foil and Women’s Sabre in action.

Canada’s Women’s Epee Team composed of Emma Von Dadelszen (Vancouver, BC), Monica Lubczynski (Pointe-Claire, QC), and Cindy Gao (Toronto, ON) defeated Chile 45-23 to advance to the final where they faced the American team.  It was a tight contest for most of the bout, with the Canadians managing to tie the score various times, however the Americans pulled away in the end to defeat the Canadians 43-39.

Canada’s Men’s Foil Team composed of Eamonn Gomez-Perales (Montreal, QC), Sean Grant (Edmonton, AB), Daniel Gu (Edmonton, AB), and Mikhael Sweet (Winnipeg, MB) lost a heartbreaker in their first round to Brazil 45-42 despite leading for most of the match.  Despite being knocked out of the medal round, the team rallied to win all of their remaining matches to finish in fifth place.

In Women’s Sabre, Canada’s team of Frederique Bourget (Blainville, QC), Zoe Clarke (North Vancouver, BC), and twins Rachel and Veronique Lamarre (Blainville, QC) won their first match against Puerto Rico 45-36 but then lost to the USA 45-23 in the semi-final round.  The team lost a very close bout to Venezuela 45-42 in the battle for bronze, finishing fourth overall.

Canada’s Junior Teams in Men’s Epee, Women’s Foil and Men’s Saber are in action today in the last day of the tournament.
