Canadian Epee Fencers Takes Home Six Medals in Men’s and Women’s FIE Satellite Event in Costa Rica

Canadians took six of eight medals at the 2018 Men’s and Women’s Epee Satellite event in San Jose, Costa Rica this past weekend.

Alexanne Verret (Quebec, QC) defeated Chloe Daniel from the USA in the women’s final by a score of 13-10 to take gold.  Emma Von Dadelszen (Vancouver, BC) and Evelyn Zheng (Toronto, ON) both took bronze medals.  Verret defeated Von Dadelszen 15-13 in the semi-finals while Zheng lost to Daniels 15-9 in her semi-final bout to both take third.  Marie-Rose Huellas-Bruskiewicz (Burnaby, BC) took 5th place to finish with four Canadian women ranked in the top eight.

In the men’s event on Sunday, John Wright from Ottawa took gold after defeating fellow Canadian Michael Buckley (Toronto, ON) in the finals for a gold and silver finish for Canada.  Isaac Gagnon (Neuville, QC) finished with a bronze medal after losing his semi-final bout to Buckley 15-12.  Wright won his semi-final bout against Italy’s Edouardo Munzone 15-14 to advance to the final.  Fynn Fafard (Roberts Creek, BC) finished in 5th place while Loic Beaulieu (Sherbrooke, QC) finished in 8th place giving Canada five of the top eight placings, including three medals.
