The 2017 Veterans World Championships have wrapped up in Slovenia with several Canadians earning some impressive results.

The Women’s Foil Team of Grace Born (DYN, BC), Siobhan Moss (EMR, QC), Frances Sloan Sainas (NVF, BC) and Susan Stewart (LSF, BC), finished just off the podium and fourth in the World. The team defeated Japan 30-26 in the top 16’s and then took out France, one of the top teams in the world, in their quarter-final match, 30-26. The team unfortunately lost their semi-final to Team USA and fell to Great Britain in the Bronze final, giving them the 4th place finish overall.

Two Canadians from the Women’s Foil team also had strong individual performances. Grace Born (DYN, BC) finished 8th in the Women’s Sabre 50+ category, losing her quarter-final bout to the eventual gold medalist from Germany. Susan Stewart (LSF, BC), a 1976 Olympian in fencing, made her return to the world stage, finishing 9th in the women’s Foil 70+ category.

Congratulations to all participants!
