By admin July 6, 2015

July 3 – It might have been a USA Fencing event, but that didn’t stop several Canadian fencers from stealing the spotlight at the 2015 USA National Fencing Championships over the past week.

Alanna Goldie was the biggest Canadian winner of the week, coming home with a bronze medal in Division 1 Women’s Foil at the event, which was held in San Jose, California. National team teammates Eleanor Harvey and Kelleigh Ryan also made their mark in the same event, finishing 5th and 7th respectively.

Goldie went undefeated through the pool round, which earned her a bye into the table of 32, where she defeated American Kennedy Lovelace, 15-14. She then soundly beat France’s Morgane Patru, 15-9 to advance to the table of 8. After beating another American, Sara Taffel, 15-11, Goldie moved on to the semi-finals where she ultimately met her match in the form of number one seed Nicole Ross, who took the bout by a score of 15-9.

The event marked the final preparation for the three national team members in the lead up to the World Championships, which begin in Moscow, Russia next week.
