CFF Competitions Update for 2016-17

By CFF September 16, 2016

The CFF has been completing a review of its competitions to ensure that its competitions, formats, rankings and selection systems are aligned with fencing’s long term athlete development (LTAD) model.

As a result of the review, the CFF is working with Provincial and local organizers to stage the following events this season:

Canada Cup East – October 22-23, 2016, Montreal, Quebec

Canada Cup West – October 22-23, 2016, Calgary, Alberta

Events include: U13, U15, cadet, junior, senior, veterans (All weapons)

The Canada Cup East and Canada Cup West are primarily development events offering domestic points in the early part of the annual competition calendar. Emphasis needs to be on positive sport experience, and gaining competitive competencies and skill set for the future. The focus is on development – the start of the pathway to national, continental and international competition and lifelong sport.

Registration will open on September 19th for the Canada Cup East and West events with all of the event details posted on the CFF website.

Canada Cup – January 28-30, 2017, Richmond, BC

Events include: U15, cadet, junior, senior, veterans (All weapons)

*Selection event for all Cadet and Junior High Performance Programs and some Senior Programs.

CFF National Championships – April 28-30, 2017, Location in Ontario/Quebec being finalized

*Date adheres to FIE’s requested date for National Championships. Selection event for Senior, Veteran, FISU, Cadet, and Junior High Performance Programs.

Finally, the CFF has developed a NEW National Ranking which combines the top 8 positions (and the respective points) from the CFF HP Ranking with the current Domestic Ranking.

The CFF Competition Review Committee will be completing its work this fall/winter with implementation of final changes to come for the next season. More details to follow.
