Fencer Leonora MacKinnon finishes 21st in the Women’s Epee Grand Prix in Cali

In the last FIE women’s epee event of the World Cup season, the Epee Grand Prix in Cali, Rio Olympian Leonora MacKinnon (Canadian living in the UK) continues to demonstrate that she is on the rise, finishing 21st.

MacKinnon went a perfect 6 wins and 0 losses in poules, advancing her directly to the tableau of 64.  There she defeated Alejandra Teran of Mexico 15-10.

MacKinnon’s first loss of the day was a heartbreaker against Italy’s Alberta Santuccio losing 15-14, putting her in 21st place overall.  MacKinnon finished 12th earlier in May at the Dubai World Cup.

Malinka Hoppe Montanaro (Montreal, QC) also advanced to the top 64’s, losing to eventual quarter-finalist Young Mi Kang from Korea, 15-11.  Hoppe Montanaro finished 60th in the competition.
