Canada had two fencers travel to Cabries, France the weekend of December 1-2, Sabrina Fang and Bogdan Hamilton, to compete in the cadet circuit in foil. Hamilton, with his best finish this season, placed 8th.

In the pool stage, Hamilton won 4 of 6 bouts which earned him a bye in the table of 256. In the following round, Hamilton beat out France’s Guillaume Caulier with a close bout of 15-13, followed by another win in the table of 64 over William Kelly of the USA (15-13). The table of 32 saw Hamilton’s victory over Germany’s Bastian Kappus 15-5. In the home stretch, Bogdan beat the USA’s Ethan Xiao 15-4 in the table of 16, but unfortunately fell in the table of 8 to Brandon Li 15-10, also of the USA. Bogdan Hamilton is currently ranked 46th in the world for foil cadets, and is the top male Canadian athlete for this category.

As well, the women’s junior foil team received a 7th place finish at the World Cup in Bucharest on December 8th, 2019. The team of Ying Cao (TFC, Ontario), Jane Caulfield (EFC, Alberta), Cynthia Liu (OTT, Ontario), and Isabella Sabatini (TFC, Ontario) faced the host team of Romania in the first round, coming out victorious 44-20.
