Mark Ballard Wins Bronze at 2015 Veterans Fencing World Championships

The 2015 Veterans Fencing World Championships are taking place in Limoges, France from October 19-25 with Canadians represented in many categories.

Today, Canada obtained its first medal of these Championships, with Mark Ballard's bronze medal in Men's Epee Category B.  Ranked third after a strong Poules round, Ballard had a bye into the round of 32 where he defeated Swiss Pfulg Philippe 10-5.  Ballard then faced Werner Hensel from Germany in the round of 16 and defeated him 10-4 putting him into the quarter-finals where he fenced Paul Muller of Switzerland who he defeated  a close 5-4. 

Ballard's run ended in the semi-final with his loss to Yamazaki from Japan 10-7, giving him the bronze medal and Canada's first podium performance of this Championship.

Competition continues through to Sunday.
