Women’s team foil into the round of 16 at Fencing World Championships

The second day of fencing for team events in Kazan Russia saw the first rounds of competition for team foil along with the last day of fencing for team sabre.

The Canadian men’s foil team lost to the team from Belarus by a score of 45-30. They finish as the 17th nation at the Championships in Men’s Team Foil.

The women’s foil team had a bye and did not fence today but will move on to the round of 16’s tomorrow. The eighth ranked Canadians will face the ninth ranked Germans in their bout.

In the final day of fencing for team sabre, the women’s team fought a hard bout against the top ranked Russians but were defeated 45-28. Although facing a tough defeat at the hands of the Russians, weapon leader Benjamin Manano is hopeful for this team’s future, as they are a very young team in terms of experience.
