Canadians continue to show their strength in women's foil by taking four of the top eight positions at the Women's Foil Satellite Tournament in Cancun, Mexico.
The youngest member of the Canadian squad, Eleanor Harvey (Hamilton, ON), who is the Junior World Championships silver medalist in 2015 and is now a first year Senior, won Gold by defeating Olympian Sakia Van Ervin Garcia 15-10 in the final.
Also on the podium, winning bronze was Alanna Goldie (Calgary, AB) who was the bronze medalist at this event in 2014. Goldie, just back from a concussion, lost her semi-final bout to Colombian Garcia Van Ervin 15-11 to finish in third spot.
Kelleigh Ryan (Ottawa, ON) and Shannon Comerford (Saskatoon, SK) finished 6th and 7th respectively, and both Canadians lost close bouts to their fellow teammates.  Ryan lost a very close 15-14 bout in the round of 8 to Goldie while Comerford lost 9-4 to Harvey in the same round.  All four athletes are in a close race to qualify in Individual Women's Foil for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.  All four athletes earn important qualification points in this event.
Other younger Canadians also took part in this field of 59 competitors. Juniors Ariane Bilodeau (Outremont, QC) and Angela Lee (Toronto, ON) finished 34th and 40th respectively, travelling to this event from a Junior World Cup in Guatemala this past weekend.
Next up for the top Canadians is the Cancun World Cup event which gets underway October 16th.
