Junior Pan American Fencing Championships Results for Day Two of Individual Competition
The second day of Individual competition at the junior Pan American Fencing Championships in Havana, Cuba saw women’s foil, men’s sabre and men’s epee in action. Canada was not successful in making the podium but had quarter-finalists in each weapon.
All four Canadians finished in the top 16 in junior women’s foil, with Cynthia Liu (EFC, Canadian living in the US) as Canada’s top finisher in 6th place. Naomi Moindrot-Zilliox (OM, Saint-Lambert, QC) finished in 13th after being eliminated by Liu. Ariane Bilodeau (MOU, Outremont, QC) was 14th and Jane Caulfield (EFC, Edmonton, AB) was 15th overall. Both Liu and Caulfield are younger athletes who also competed in the Cadet-aged competition.
Hunter Moricz (NVF, North Vancouver, BC) had Canada’s top result in Sabre, losing his quarter-final bout to the eventual gold medalist for the event, to finish in 7th overall. Angelo Chiara (BRE, Montreal, QC), who won bronze in the cadet competition, finished in 15th place overall.
Three Canadians finished in the top 16 in Men’s epee. Loup-Yann Ferre (STH, Quebec, QC) lost in the quarter-finals to finish 6th overall, while cadet-aged Fynn Fafard (DYN, Robert’s Creek, BC) was 11th and Matthew Litwin (SWP, Toronto, ON) was 13th.
The juniors compete in Team competition today with women’s epee, men’s foil and men’s sabre teams in action.
